Genealogy of the Bargmann family (part 3):

The immigrant generation passes and is laid to rest:

Below: Immanuel Lutheran Church at Hermansberg, Bremen, Kansas. The beautiful structure dates from 1901, but the congregation has witnessed numerous baptisms, weddings, confirmations, and deaths over its long history, dating back to 1869.

Immanuel firsts:

  • First baptism: William Fred John August Poppe on August 8, 1869
  • First Rippe baptism: Doris Louise Margaretha Rippe, daughter of William and Anna Rippe on October 12, 1884
  • First Bargmann baptism: Rebecka Anna Mary Bargmann, daughter of Hermann and Margaretha (Rippe) Bargmann on March 7, 1889
  • First confirmations: Mina Fisher, Emille Grote, Henry Koeneke, Thomas Koeneke and Herman Pralle on April 18, 1870
  • First Rippe confirmation: Anna Rippe on March 14, 1876
  • First  Bargmann confirmation: Rebekka Bargmann on April 5, 1903
  • First wedding: John Scheibe and Catherine Brenneke on January 20, 1870
  • First Rippe wedding: Wilhelm Rippe and Anna Schaefer on October 5, 1883
  • First Bargmann wedding: Hermann Bargmann and Margaretha Rippe on April 5, 1888
  • First burial: Herman Poppe (age 3), who died March 16, 1870
  • First Rippe burial: Anna Rippe (age 1), who died July 22, 1886
  • First Bargmann burial: Unnamed son of Hermann and Margaretha Bargmann (stillborn), who died October 10, 1887

The images below were recorded August 23, 2014. The church door was unlocked which allowed us to explore the interior with its stained glass windows depicting significant events in the life of Jesus. We also located the graves of relatives in the cemetery alongside the church.

 

 The sons and daughters of Hermann and Maria are married:

  • August 17, 1940: Viola “Blondie” Bargmann married to Merle “Doc” Breeding
  • February 24, 1946: Alvin Bargmann married to Lola Grotelueschen
  • March 10, 1946: Leonard Bargmann married to Reita Sheibe
  • September 29, 1946: Donna Bargmann married to Myron “Mike” Graham
  • December 14, 1947: Nelda Bargmann married to James Ungerer
  • May 28, 1949: Darlene Bargmann married to Richard “Dick” Gillilan
  • May 27, 1951: Roland Bargmann married to Janet Koch

The second Bargmann born in the United States, Hermann Friedrich, passes:

  • Directions to Immanuel: follow US 36 west from Marysville to 3rd Road. Turn right. A couple miles later the tall white steeple dominates its surroundings directly ahead.)

Steven (March 10, 1952) and Terry (February 20, 1953).

Reita and Leonard Bargmann, of Topeka, Kansas, welcome:
Diane (February 24, 1947), David (October 2, 1948), and Darrold (October 12, 1950).

Donna and Myron Graham, of Bramston, Nebraska, welcome:
Allen (December 21, 1947), Kathy (March 17, 1950), and Julie (July 16, 1957).

Nelda and James Ungerer, of Marysville, Kansas, welcome:
James (October 15, 1951), Jeffrey (July 18, 1954), Marna (April 6, 1956) and Jon (July 30, 1959).
